ELECTRONIC COMPUTER PROGRAM ABSTRACT
TITLE OF PROGRAM I PROGR AM NO.
Reservoir Temperature Stratification i 723-X6-L7410
PREPARING AGENCY The Hydrologic Engineering Center, u. s. Army Corps of Engineers,
600 Second Street DRvis C,,1 ifornia 0<;616
AUT HOR(S) DATE PROGRAM COMPLETED ST ATUS OF PROGRAM
Leo R. Beard September 1969 PHASE 1ST AG E
R. G. Willey lnit. Op.
A. PURPOSE OF PROGRAM
The reservoir temperature stratification model simulates temperature variations
between horizontal strata within a reservoir on a monthly basis, given data on
initial conditions and on inflow rates and temperatures, outflow rates and tol-
erable temperatures, evaporation, precipitation, insolation, air temperatures,
specific outlet release requirements, if any, and the physical features of the
dam and reservoir.
B. PROGRAM SPECIP'ICATIONS
The program is written in FORTRAN IV. The program is dimensioned for 100
horizontal layerS in the reservoir and 9 intake levels (any number of outlets
per level).
c. MET HODS
The procedure is based on the energy budget analysis. The analysis accounts
for the energy in each horizontal layer and the energy and water transferred
into and out of each layer of the reservoir.
D. EQUIPMENT DET AIL.S
The program has been tested on the GE 425, IBM 7044, IBM 360/50, UNIVAC 1108,
and the CDC 6600. 14,000 vords 0:" stora:;," are re'luired on tl'e ODe 6600.
E. INPUT - OUTPUT
Cards are used for input, printer for output, and output units 92, 93, and 94
are used for temporary binary storage.
F.
