The 10-, 50-, 100- and 500-year flood evcnts were used aa the
flood frequencIes for thIs atudy. Thus making thi~ report compatible

AdmInistration flood insurance rate studIes.

These flood events have probability of occurrence one in the
number of years as indicated. For e~ample. the 100-year flood occurs,
on the average, once in a 100-year period, and has II one percent chance
of being equalled or e~ceeded in any gIven year.

Information presented for the 10- and 50-yesr f1ood~ could be
used by the localjurisdictiotls for planningpurposea. They could be
used in future planninR and deaign efforts related to various land use
octivitlea, auch as, design of roads and bridges, minor channel improve-
ments, plannIng parks and recreational facilities, and other types of
hydraulic structutes.
