Monitor River Stages! Forecasts with Table 2.
2. Establish contact with NWS-Pueblo and inform
I them EOC is open and contact phone numbers.
. 3, Use EMWIN and phone to get forecast stages
trom NWS,
4. Monitor "River Watcher" stage observations at
Fowler, Manzanola, Rocky Ford and Swink.
5, Monitor USGS flood stage gauges ali
. Fountain Creek (FCHCs, FOUMOUCO)
. Avondale (11-ADLC2, ARKAUOCO)
. Nepesta (12-NPT2, ARKNEPCO)
. Apishapa River (APAC2, AP1 FOWCO)
. Catlin Dam (13-CDM2, ARKCATCO)
. Rocky Ford (14-ARCC2, ARCROCCO)
. La Junta (15-LVHC2. ARKLAJCO)

6. Using Internet USGS site, assess need for evacu-
ations based on forecast. Base decision on combi-
nation of observations and NWS predicted stage ht.
7. Monitor observed and predicted river stages
and time to crest.
8. Compare stage height predictions to observed
stage heights and location of flood crest.
9. If flood crest is predictedl observed to
exceed 12 feet at Rocky Ford, evacuation
of the 100-yearfloodplain in North La Junta is
strongly recommended in the next 4 to 6 hrs.
10. If flood crest is predicted or observed to exceed 12 to
14 teet at the Timpas Creek at Swink USGS GOES
Staff Gauge or observed by the Swink River Watcher,
evacuations of the 1 OO-year floodplain in both North
La Junta and La Junta must be accomplished
rapidly in the next 60 to 90 minutes to avoid loss of
life. Since river flood crest travel times are estimated.
preparation times could be less. Pass this information
on to County Commissioners, EOC Head. La Junta
City Manager.
11.
