Railroad
6 miles west of Las Animas.

The COE project design flood
was 140,000 cfs (143 year
flood). The COE standard
project flood was 200,800 cfs
(>200 year flood). The
100-year flood was 113,000 cfs.

A left (north) bank levee beginning at a
point about 5400 feet east of the State
Highway 89 bridge across the Arkansas
River, then extending upstream (westerly)
following the north bank of the Arkansas
River to its confluence with Wild Horse
Creek then turning north and continuing
along the left (east) bank of Wild Horse
Creek to a high point 9000 feet northeast
of the U.S. Highway 50 bridge across Wild
Horse Creek.

The COE standard project floods
of 62,000 cfs for Wild Horse
Creek and 160,000 cfs for the
Arkansas River were used for
the project design floods. .
The 100-year flood was
36,200 cfs on Wild Horse Creek
and 82,000 cfs on the Arkansas
River.

The COE standard project flood
of 41,000 cfs on Wolf Creek
was used for the project design
flood (>200 year flood) for the
floodway portion of the project.
The outfall channel was designed
for 9200 cfs (IS-year flood). The
100-year flow is 27.000 cfs.

An outfall channel extending from the
Arkansas River upstream approximately 104
miles to a point approximately 1600 feet
east ofthe U.S. Highway 385 bridge north
of Granada; a right (east) bank levee 1.36
miles long and a left (west) bank levee
1048 miles long along the outfall channel;
a floodway channel extending from the up-
stream limit of the outfall channel up-
stream to a point slightly upstream of its
crossing under U.S. Highway 50; a right
bank levee extending from the downstream
limit of the floodway channel upstream
approximately 1.3 miles to a point approxi-
mately 1900 reet south of the crossing of
the floodway channel by U.S. Highway 50;
and a branch right bank levee extending from
a high point along the South Granada Ditch
approximately .5 mile east of Granada up-
stream along the South Granada Ditch ap-
proximately .7 mile to the downstream
limit of the floodway channel.

8

e

Compl~\i.9!!
Date

June 17, 1978

October 3,1980

e

November 30, 1980

e
