An alternate overflow arrangement woUld be to construct
a modified version of the outfall structure which was used
for the sewage lagoon. Some modificationEi for flow may need
to be considered. A structure of this type would allovl
removal of water at alternate depths. The intake should be
equipped with a fish screen.

o wildfowl area overflow.
It is desirable to provide a flow su~ficient to
maintain a flushing action on the waterfowl area for water
quality reasons already discussed. Watert;owl pond effluent
could be discharged either to the Uncompatigre or Gunnison
Rivers; the State of Colorado requirement~ dictated in state
water law should be consulted, along with 'requirements for
effluent discharge quality, prior to making this decision.
Water quality of \;'aterfowl pond effluent could be of concern
due to mineral concentrations and potentiE11 bacterial
pollution, and a section 402 permit from the Colorado
Department of Health may be needed. If structures or fill
are placed in the flood plain, a section 404 permit may also
be required from the Regulatory Division of the Corps of
Engineers.

One alternative for discharge of flows from the
waterfowl area is to guide the flow to th~ nearby existing
drain running north along the east side oJj the fish pond,
thence to the Gunn, ison River. The waterfdwl overflow could
be collected in a catch basin or other collector structure,
near the northeasterly corner of the wateJ:1fowl pond, and
guided by pipe to the receiving drain. Ttie basin would be a
standard shallow catch basin, filled with :rock or equipped
with a fish screen, and the exit pipe would be directed to a
receiving pipe, open drain, or the river. The rock or
screen in the catch basin would serve to prevent fish
intrusion during river flows high enough to back up through
the pipe.

Another alternate overflow from the waterfowl site
could be the use of a series of rock sill :structures within
a rock-lined channel. The channel would be C)'uided to either
river or the aforementioned receiving drain.

o Outfall.
The top 4 or 5 feet of the fish ponclmay need to be
drained to allow for cleaning, repairs, m~difications, or
other needs, The outfall structure which 'serviced the
sewage lagoons when they were in operatior, is still in
satiSfactory condition, according to City 'of Delta
officials. This outlet could be maintained for similar use
with the fish ponds. Since no structures 'are scheduled to
be placed in the d,,,ep portion of the pond" repairs or
modifications ther,,, would not be anticipated.

8
