A visit to many of the breathtak. <br />ingly beautiful wonders of nalun~ by <br />waterways made available by one of the <br />14 storage reservoirs has been a reality <br />for thousands who heretofore could <br />only read of such an adventure. A tabu. <br />lation of the number of visitor days to <br />recreation areas made possible by the <br />Colorado River Storage Project and Par- <br />ticipating Projects as shown on the <br />opposite page reveals that millions <br />afford themselves this opportunity each <br />year, many on a repeat basis. <br /> <br />\ <br /> <br />Major improvements and additions dur- <br />ing fiscal Year 1972 were made to <br />recreation facilities in the Glen Canyon- <br />Lake Powell area. at Blue Mesa Reser. <br />voir of the Curecanli Unit. and at the <br />Heron Reservoir of the San Juan-Choma <br />Project. These included a water treat- <br />ment plant. sewage system, paved park. <br />ing area, an access road to the conces- <br /> <br />sionaire's lodgll ilt Lens Fl!rry. it snwillolf! <br />system correction and floating comfort <br />station at Rainbow Bridge, and addi- <br />tional water and sewage facilities at <br />Wahweap. all in the Glen Canyon <br />National Recreation Area, In thtl <br />Curecanti Rllcreation Area a tree plant- <br />ing project for the visitor center at Elk <br />Creek WflS completed, and water, sewer, <br />and electrical facilities were construc- <br />ted at Lake Fork, At Heron Res(!rvoir <br />a rest stop and overlook were started, <br /> <br />Plans are being dllveloped to provide <br />recreation facilities at Tyzack Rllservoir <br />of the Jensen Unit of the Ctlntral Utah <br />Project. Rt.ocfeation facilities at Flaming <br />Gorge, while only about 60 percent com- <br />plete. are extensive, Howevtlr. available <br />facilities are taxed to capacity on many <br />weekends and holidays during the <br />summer months. Glen Canyon facilities <br />are about 30 percent compltlte as are <br />those at the Curecanli Unit, Starvation <br />Resllrvoir on the Bonneville Unll has <br />a boat ramp, parking area and access <br />road, Facilities are completo at tho fol. <br />lowing reservoirs: Huntington North. <br />Lemon. Paonia, Fontentllle. Rifle Gap, <br />Crawford.anrl Steinaker. Facilities have <br />yet to be constructed at Meeks Cabin <br />Reservoir of the Lyman Project anti <br />Silver Jack Reservoir of the Bostwick <br />Par!. Project. <br /> <br />1!j <br />
