CHANGES ARE MADE IN DETERMINA TlONS OF BASE FLOOD ELEV A nONS FOR THE CITY

OF BOULDER, COLORADO, UNDER THE NATIONAL FLOOD INSURANCE PROGRAM

On June 2, 1995, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) identified Special Flood

Hazard Areas (SFHAs) in Boulder County, Colorado and Incorporated Areas through issuance of a Flood

Insurance Rate Map (FIRM).

The Mitigation Directorate has determined that modification of the elevations of the flood having

a I-percent chance of occurrence in any given year (base flood) for certain locations in the City of

Boulder is appropriate. The modified base flood elevations (BFEs) revise the FEMA FIRM for the

community.

The changes are being made pursuant to Section 206 of the Flood Disaster Protection Act of 1973

(Public Law 93-234) and are in accordance with the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968, as amended

(Title XIII of the Housing and Urban Development Act of 1968, Public Law 90-448), 42 U.S.C. 4001-

4128, and 44 CFR Part 65.

Hydraulic analyses were performed to incorporate channel modifications and culvert construction

under 47th Street and Foothills Parkway and resulted in a revised delineation of the regulatory floodway

and modifications to the SFHA and BFEs from approximately 600 feet upstream of Kings Ridge

Boulevard to just upstream of the Burlington Northern Railroad. The table below indicates the modified

BFEs for several locations along the affected length of Wonderland Creek.

Location

Existing BFE
(feet)*

Modified BFE
(feet)*

Approximately 155 feet downstream of Kings Ridge Boulevard
Approximately 1,000 feet upstream of Kings Ridge Boulevard
Approximately 380 feet downstream of 47th Street
Just downstream of the Burlington Northern Railroad
Just upstream of the Burlington Northern Railroad

5,254
5,269
5,271
5,282
5,287

5,254
5,268
5,269
5,283
5,287

"National Geodetic Vertical Datum, rounded to nearest whole foot
