' <br /> <br />A heavy thunderstorm dropped up to 2 <br />inches of rain on Pueblo early in the evening <br />on Thursday, June 2, 1994, The rain eaused <br />loealized street flooding and cars were <br />stalled in flooded intersections, Colorado <br />Springs received 2Y2 inches of rain that day, <br />but stretched out over an entire afternoon, <br />More rain was predicted over the next few <br />days, Early Friday morning, just past <br />midnight, Pueblo reeeived a storm that <br />pounded the city with up to 4,87 inches of <br />rain in just over an hour, Just before the <br />storm, the National Weather Service (NWS) <br />put out warnings of heavy rains which were <br />likely to cause street flooding and possibly <br />small stream flooding. <br /> <br />Onee the storm began dropping nearly 4 <br />inches of rain on Pueblo West, the NWS <br />issued urban and small stream flood <br />advisories, Many people did not learn of the <br />flood until the sound of triekling water <br />awakened them, which gave them little time <br />to eseape the rising waters in their homes, <br /> <br />"We couldn~ get out because the water <br />was so high... my son was hysterical <br />and we JuuJ to stand on chairs on the <br />porch to stay out of the water.
