A meeting was held with Carl Pender, Public Works Director and a Public Works employee,
The meeting was held at the town halL

. Tom Browning made introductions, explained the purpose of the meeting, reviewed
legislation supporting the designation process and described the designation process,

. The Town confirmed that the FHBM generally looks correct, There has been minor
development since the map was constructed, primarily an industrial area immediately north
of Calamity Draw on Highway 97,

. The creek bottom is generally fairly "wet" which likely prevents most development within
the floodplain, Some development has been proposed along Calamity Draw, However, once
the developer is told about the floodplain, they usually back out

. There is a proposed annexation and development west of town near the coal mine, This land
adjoins Calamity Draw downstream of the town,

. There have not been significant flood flows in recent memory, The Town does not
remember significant backwater at any ofthe culverts in Calamity Draw,

Field Review
. The Calamity Draw watershed primarily consists of low elevation mountains at its
headwaters giving way to ,agricultural fields immediately to the east of Nucla, Agriculture
primarily consists of irrigated grass-hay fields, In agricultural areas, grazing and tillage have

G

, 014

nucla_fieldrpt.doc
November 13, 2000
