PREFACE

This report includes information on the flood hazard areas along the
Colorado River and Parachute Creek in the Town of Parachute, Colorado.

Because of the potential for flood damages, detailed flood hazard studies
have long been recognized as essential to guiding the regulation and use of
floodplains by local governments. The purpose of this report is to provide
mapping and data for implementing a floodplain rranagement program in the Town
of Parachute. Included in this report are information about historic floods,
potential for future floods, discharge data, plans, cross-sections, profiles
and other information regarding flood potential within the Town.

The technical studies for the Colorado River and Parachute Creek were
conducted by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Sacramento District, and the
U. S. D. A. Soil Conservation Service, respectively. The technical work was
reviewed, floodplain maps prepared and the report text compiled by consultants
to the Town of Parachute: James E. Langford and Associates, Grand Junction,
Colorado.

The cooperation and assistance of the Colorado Water Conservation Board,
the Soil Conservation Service and the Town of Parachute in preparing this
document is acknowledged and greatly appreciated.
