Because it has been determined by the Colorado Water Conservation
Board that the lOO-year floodplain in the To~n of Creede is confined to
the Corps of Engineers flood control channel, it is recommended that the
To~n appeal to the Federal Insurance Administration ~ith the findings of
this report. It would appear tllat tile mandatory requirements of the
To~'s participation in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) may
not be neededl ho~ever, the community should remain in the NFI? so that
flood insurance is available to residents ~ho may desire to purchase
flood insurance.
A yearly llI3intenance schedule simila~ to the One currently pursued
by the Town is recommended in order to keep clea~ debris upstream f~OIll
the entrance to the Corps of En8inee~s flood control channel. This is
essential in order for all flood flo~s to ente~ the Corps channel and not
be diverted around the channel.
