Natural barriers, man
made barriers, and the types and concentration ofJand use were all considerations.
Thc centerline of Dry Creek was a basic dividing line, with all adjoining property
heingineither nght.orleft-bank subareas.

n.oOD PLAIN SlRUCTI.lRES AND LI\1PROVEMENTS
Land use data were coUected in the Soo..year flood plain of Dry Creek for each
of the 17 SlIOOrcas. There are 675 residential and 254 nonresidential structures in
the SOO-year flood plain. The number of buildings identified during the land use
slIrveyand their values, ine!uding contents, are shown in table 4-2. Suhareas 4and'
5 were found to have no buildings in the SOO-yearDI)'Creek flood plain, but they
were retained in the tahle and in subsequent flood damage tables to provide
complete information. Value. of buildings within the flood plain wcre based on the
type of structure, construction mllterial used, structure size, and structure condition.

The damage potential was evaluated within ~ch of the subareas for the 2- 5-
00
10-,50".100-, and SOO-year flood events. Table 4-3 shows the number of builrline~
affected by various flood events. Average flood depths within each subarea byflood
event is shown in tahle 4-4. The average flood depths represent the depth of
fioodin~ on the ground adjacent to each building.

IS111'tlAIEP.
