An example of this is the <br />upslope flow of easterly winds into the foothills of the Rockies. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />Thunderstorms with heavy precipitation characteristics generally <br />occur in the Spring and Summer. While bDth Spring and Summer storms <br />can have similar moisture and lift characteristics, there are <br />differences in the degree Df influence in storm development. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Moisture in the Spring stDrms is partially in place but also has <br />moisture contribution due to a moisture flux (inflDw or advectiDn <br />intD the region and storm). Spring stDrms have characteristics of <br />more winter-like lift mechanisms such as strong fronts with large <br />temperature differences , more intense lDW pressure centers and <br />strong jet stresms. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Summer stDrms generally have mDre mDisture in place but are also <br />enhanced by moisture flowing into the regiDn and storm. Moisture <br />in the summer is enhsnced by subtrDpical moisture frDm storms such <br />as hurricanes. The primary lift mechanism in summer is cDnvection: <br />many times aided by fronts, jet streams and orDgrsphics, <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />In both csses of heavy Spring and Summer storms, synoptic weather <br />plays a key role in storm generatiDn . lDcation and intensity. <br />Synoptic in general is pertaining to an Dverall view over s wide <br />area fDr the purpDse of presenting a comprehensive picture of the <br />state Df the atmophere. Synoptic weather would generally include <br />the evaluation of air masses, fronts. upper air troughs. <br />orographics, convectiDn and moisture SDurces and their projected <br />movements and modificatiDns with time over a region of several <br />states. Storms occur where westher parameters or ingredients CDme <br />together . The develDment Df storms is influenced by synDptic , <br />mesDscale (portion of a state) , DrDgraphic and in-cloud features. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The location Df Big ThDmpson and the Cheyenne floDds occurred at <br />those 10catiDns when certain synoptic features triggered or <br />enhsnced local, mesoscale, cloud and Drographic features.
