lfe
~

~
1i:

I
I
I
l
I
[~
~
I
I
I
I

-

9.0 DISCUSSION

The waste rock and welded wire fabric slope protection described in this
report has been designed to withstand the velocities encountered during a
peak flow of 5810 cfs. As estimated based on the hydrograph from the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers study, high velocities near the peak flow rate are

estimated to last for a period of one hour or less, after which flow rates

can be expected to rapidly decrease.

High flow rates of long duration or carrying excessive large diameter debris

may undermine the slope protection, cause channel aggradation or damage the
welded wire fabric protection. It is believed there is sufficient factor of

safety in the freeboard, scour protection depth and width of the protective

embankment to protect the facil ities, however extensive maintenance may be

required after the passage of high flows.

9-1
