fe

'l'~
I

fa

7.0 DESIGN RECOMMENDATIONS

Design recommendations for the Water Treatment P1ant Site, the Emergency

Storage Pond Site and the tributary watershed are summarized in this section.

7.1 Water Treatment Site
We recommend that Water Treatment Plant Site be fined to elevation
6600 at the west end of the site. The fin should extend at elevation 6600
to the canyon wall on the south, if required. The fill may be graded at 10
percent to meet the existing ground at the concrete ponds, as shown on Figure

3.

Due to the high velocity of 16 feet per second in the main channel,
s lope protect i on is requ i red to prevent eros i on. Riprap to res i st movement
by this velocity would require a median weight of about 2,000 pounds or a
median diameter of over 36 inches. It would aho require at least one and
possibly two intermediate filter blankets to prevent migration of fines from
the fill during high flows. This was considered to be uneconomical. 1\ ~1

There is an existing stock pile of waste rock with diameters 1ess than
12 inches. This material would be suitable for slope protection, however it
would require additional protection to prevent movement by high velocity
flows. Welded Wire Fabric (WWF) laid over rock and fastened to anchors driven \Y~
or p I aced in the subgrade has been used succes s ful1y. The fabric shou1 d be
heavy to resist the abrasive action of large material being moved by the
stream. Six-inch by six-inch mesh of 4 gauge wire is recommended. Anchors
may be any steel shape Or pipe.

7-1
