<br />II. DESCRIPTION OF FLOODS AND DAMAGES <br /> <br />A. MISSOURI RIVER <br /> <br />1. General.- Official flood stageS of 15, 15, and 17 feet, <br />respectively, at the Missouri River gaging stations located at <br />Nebraska ~ity, Br ownvi lIe , and Rulo, Nebraska, were exceeded for <br />various lengths of time each month from February to August, inclusive, <br />1951. Maximum stages recorded at these stations were as follows: <br />Nebraska City, 18.4 feet on 2 June; Brownville. 21.5 on 3 June; <br />and Rulo, 21.0 feet on 3 June. While the Missouri River overtopped <br />ita banks in the lower part of the District during the above flood <br />stage periods, the overflow was confined to the unprotected lands <br />between the levees and no serious damage resulted. No estimate. . . <br />was prepared of the areas inundated and flood damages sustained. <br /> <br />B. MTI..L CREEK, MISSOURI <br /> <br />Flood of .26-30 March and 8-19 April . <br /> <br />1. Cause.- During the spring breakup, a small ice jam' formed . <br />in -Mip. Greek Ditch near the mouth, whi?h caused the waters to rise <br />and break t~e 'r~ght bank levee. Local flooding 'followed. <br /> <br />:,. <br /> <br />.2. ..Exten1>.,. Flooding was limited to a small area on the rigM <br />side of 1>he ditch near the point of confluence with the:Missouri <br />Hi ver . <br /> <br />3. One farmyard was flooded to shallow depth: - If' . <br />short stretch of graded earth county road was rendered impassable <br />for about one week, and a small amount of levee da~ge 'occurred. <br />No human lives or livestock were lost. This same area was reflooded <br />during 8-19 April. The damages from the two floods are given in <br />the following paragraph. <br /> <br />6.
