<br />area, 2.5 'miles of U. S~' Highway No., 138 were, covered' with water
<br />and the approaches to on~ bridge were washed out and three small
<br />private bridges were destroyed. Three miles of Union Pacific
<br />Railroad,road~ed wer.e damaged by loss of bal~ast and cutting or
<br />a levee between u.. :,8,. Highway No. 138 and the tracks,~, Traok
<br />damage in this reach clOsed the line for one day, which necessitated
<br />rerouting of train 'traffic. At the state line, 9 cabins, 1 store,
<br />and: 1 garage were,flooded to a depth of 1.5 feet on the first
<br />,-floors, and 1 trailer was washed into an adjoining field.

<br />sidehills adjacent to the, north side of Big SpriJ:its pcnded along
<br />the Union Pacific, Railro,ad tracks and overflowed'~a portion of a

<br />~. Ogallala to Chappell.- Between these two tcwns, 4 bridges
<br />", on U, S, Highway No. 30 were damaged by approach washouts. At one
<br />place, a lake with, approximately 200 acres of surface area was fOrmed
<br />on relatively flat land by conoentretion of runoff from local
<br />precipitation. This lake covered about 1,500 feet of U. S.Highway
<br />No. 30.
