CO 81401

Attention: John p, Byrne, Director

Dear Mr. Byrne:

This letter pertains to the potential flooding situation in
Lake City, Colorado. You are aware of the correspondence and dialogue
that has taken place between the Colorado Water Conservation Board, the
Army Corps of Engineers and DODES regarding the potential flooding prob-
lems, especially on Henson Creek. It appears that the potential for
flooding is increasing as the latest USDA-SCS snow reports indicate a
snowpack of 190%.

The dike and levee system along Henson Creek has some low un-
protected spots which were identified in the flood study. The Town now
has an engineered levee system estimated to cost $20,000 for the north
side of Henson Creek. There should probably be a similar levee on the
south side of Henson Creek as the report identified low areas there also.

Material and equipment may be available through the County,
but I suspect financial assistance will be required. Our financial con-
straints make it difficult to address this problem in its entirety.
We are prepared to participate in this project, but we do formally re-
quest assistance from DODES in either technical or financial form.

Enclosed is a copy of the Engineering Report. We look forward
to the meeting with you May 8th.

2~f+jQC

R~~ E.
