Lamm will preside at a ceremony to mark "Flood Awareness.' <br />Day" on Friday, July 31, 1981, the 5th anniversary of the 1976 Big Thompson <br /> <br />Canyon flood. The ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. at Viestenz-Smith Park, ' <br />8 miles west of Loveland on U.S. Highway 34, the site of the Loveland hydro- <br />power plar.t which, along with much of the park, was totally destroyed in the. <br />July 1976 flood disaster. <br /> <br />Governor Lamm had earlier proclaimed the 31st as "Flood Awareness Day" to <br /> <br />'", - <br /> <br />Qall attention to past floods and the po.tential in Colorado for future flood <br /> <br />, disasters and losses of life and property. The day I S activities will further <br /> <br />emp1lasize the need for a comprehensive program of floodplain management. <br />With the assistance of the Colorado Water Conservation Board, local govern- <br />ments throughout the state a~ implementing such floodplain management <br /> <br />programs. <br /> <br />Other dignitaries to attend the ceremony will be Ms. Nona Thayer, Larimer <br /> <br />County Commissioner, Loveland Mayor Harold Kester, and Estes Park Mayor <br /> <br />Harry B.
