Dawdy jFEMA cross-section on the fan and the trapezoidal cmss-section of the ch,mnel along
the dike was assumed to occur over the length of the vertical transition. The HEC..2 model was
used to compute a water surface profile for the 1 aO-year peak flow. (See "Water-Surface Profile'
section of Design Notebook).

DIKE HEIGHT DETERMINATION

DikE! height is a combination of several factors. The dl~pth of deposition was detmmined from
the previously described deposition computations. The! water surface was determined from the
HEC-2 simulation. A hydrodynamic head (direct attacl~ of f10Wi3 on 11he fan) was determined by
computing the total energy head for flows down the fan and for flows along the dike and using
the larger of the two values. Freeboard is three feelt.

The total dike height is therefore:

Deposition

5.9 feet

Depth of Flow

4..3 feet

Velocity Head

2.0 feet

Freeboard

3.12 feel

Total

15.2 fe'~t
