REQUEST FOR NOMINATION OF INDIVIDUALS

TO PARTICIPATE IN PLANNING WORKSHOP

Dear

Earlier this year I notified you about an effort to develop a Multi-objective Hazard Mitigation Plan for the Vermillion
River Basin. This plan will be drafted during a one-week period (June 20-24, 1994). Normally, such planning takes
longer but, in response to local requests and the interests of some of our project partners, we have developed a proce-
dure (see enclosed workshop description) which should accomplish the job in one week. To do it, we need your help.

!

On the first day of the planning workshop--Monday, June 20, at 9:00 A.M. in Parker-we will start with a general
introduction and orientation to what we are trying to achieve and how we will proceed. This session will last until
10:15 A.M. For the rest of the day we will break into six planning teams that will focus on different iSsues which were
suggested by local residents at a meeting held earlier this year in Yankton and are described on the enclosed "briefing
paper." You will be able to add to these issues on June 20. The six planning teams will.be:
Team One: Flood control, channel alignment, fluvial geomorphology, transportation systems, drainage issues
Team Two: Economic development and sustainability, housing issues
Team Three: Fish and wildlife populations, habitat, enhancement, and sustainability issues
Team Four: Outdoor recreation and open space issues
Team Five: Water quality and erosion issues
Team Six: Historic and cultural resource issues

Each team will be composed of local, state and/or federal personnel who are recognized experts on the assigned issues.
On Monday, June 20, all teams will meet at the same times (10:30 A.M., 1:30 P.M., and 3:30 P.M.) in different rooms with
interested people from across the Basin to find out more about their interests and concerns (see enclosed agenda). The
interests expressed during those three sessions are the ones that the phin will be based on. Everyone is invited to these
sessions but, to get wide representation of all issues and areas in the Basin, we want to extend specific invitations tor
individuals you think should be there.

Please think about who we should invite (include yourself if you wish) and what issues they would be most interested
in or knowledgeable about. Fill out the nomination form and return it to us to reach here by June 10. We will call and
make appointments for the people you suggest.

Please mail the enclo~ed response form with your nominees to the addess on this letter, or fax the response form to
(303) 987-6676. All forms must reach Duane Holmes by June 10 to allow time to set up appointments with all nominees.

[signed)

.
