The I'ater surface profiles and pertinent hydraulic design data are pre-

sented in Appendix II, "Hydraulic Design." Preproject flood plains are

shol'n on plate 6 and postproject flood plains on plate 7.

24. \Qo1f Creek Diversion. The recommended plan as shown on plate 7

I'ou1d consist of a levee on the alignment of the existing levee along

Wolf Creek I'ith an outfall channel to the Arkansas River. TIlis I'ou1d

extend from high ground on the right bank south of U.S. Highl'ay SO and

continue past State Highl'ay 51 to the northeast. The proposed diversion

would be designed to convey the peak discharge of the standard project

flood of 41,000 c.f.s. past Granada. For economy of the project, the

design of the outfall channel \'lOuld be for a discharge .less than SpF.

25. Existing Conditions. The capacity of the existing levee system

that extends from about 1/3 mile south of Colorado State Iliglmay SO to

the AT&SF Railroad Bridge is about 12,500 c.f.s. This section of levee

is the main protection for the tOl'n of Granada. The" levee is from the

north side of the AT&SF Railroad Bridge northeast to Colorado State

Highl'ay 51 Bridge then continues east for about 1-1/2 miles. ;nth the

existing levee system the town of Granado is protected from floods of

standard project flood magnitudes on the Arkansas River.

26. Interior Drainage. TIle s lope of the land in the vicinity of

Granada is in an easterly direction. TIlis generally r.taintains good drainage

of water al'ay from the existing levee. Il0\4ever, ponding areas are presently

formed by the existing levee at stations 57+00 and 97+00. These will remain

after construction of the proposed leve'e and an additional ponding area will

be formed at station 86+00. The drainage areas for these ponds are snaIl

and minimwn size outlets or lateral ditches will alleviate the ponding.

12
