Generally, the peak discharges per square <br />mile as computed for this analysis are somewhat higher <br />than the peak discharges per square mile as computed <br />from the other studies. We feel that this difference <br />can be explained primarily by the difference in basin <br />size. Larger basins will normally concentrate runoff <br />more slowly than will smaller basins, resulting in <br />lower peak flows. Additionally, larger, longer basins <br />provide more peak attenuation in the form of channel <br />storage than do smaller basins. To the best of our <br />knowledge, peak flows as developed in the other studies <br />are based either mostly or totally on hydrologic <br />modelling, and not on a statistical analysis of <br />recorded flood events. Given this, we feel that the <br />peak flows developed in this analysis are reasonable. <br /> <br />I, <br /> <br /> <br />12 <br /> <br />
