FLOOD INSURANCE STUDY
TOWN OF GEORGETOWN, CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, COLORADO

1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 Purpose of Study

This Flood Insurance Study investigates the existence and severity
of flood hazards in the Town of Georgetown, Clear Creek County,
Colorado, and aids in the administration of the National Flood
Insurance Act of 1968 and the Flood Disascer Proteccion Act of
1973. This study will be used to establish actuarial flood
insurance rates and assist in the community in their efforts to
promote sound floodplain management. Minimum floodplain
management requirements for participation in the National Flood
Insurance Program (NFIP) are set forth in the Code of Federal
Regulations at 44 CFR, 60.3.

This Flood Insurance Scudy was prepared by compiling percinent
information for the flood hazard areas in the Town of Georgetown,
Clear Creek County, Colorado, from existing technical and/or
scientific data originally prepared by others for purposes other
than those of the NFIP. The existing data were reviewed by the
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) prior to its use in the
development of chis Flood Insurance Study to ensure compliance
with NFIP regulationa.

In some states or communities, floodplain management criteria or
regulations may exist that are more restrictive or comprehensive
than those on which these Federally-supported studies are based.
In such cases, the more restrictive criteria take precedence, and
the State (or other jurisdictional agency) will be able to explain
them.

1.2 Authority and Acknowledgements

The sources of authority
National Flood Insurance
Protection Acc of 1973.

for this Flood Insurance Scudy are the
Act of 1968 and the Flood Disaster

The hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for
performed by The Colorado Water Conservation
completed in February 1987 (Reference 1).

this
Board

study
(CWCB)

were
and

1.3 Coordination

On May 24, 1988,
accepted at a
representatives of

the resul ts of this
final coordination
the communicy and FEMA.

study were
meeting

reviewed
attended

and
by
