<br /> <br />Two-story dwelling on <br />steel posts, Sacramento, <br />California <br /> <br />Located along the Sacramento River, this wooden frame <br />house is raised 9.5 feet. Steel I-beams run the length of the house <br />and are attached to 12 steel posts which are 6 inches in diameter. <br />The posts are attached to the I-beams with bolts and are set in <br />concrete. The wooden floor joists rest upon the I-beams (Figure <br />AI2). <br /> <br />Electrical circuit boxes and the heating/ air conditioning unit <br />are raised about 5 to 6 feet above the flood plain. The two-car <br />garage is located beneath the first-floor ground level. A wooden <br />bridge runs from the first floor to the road.
