REACH 3: Nile Street to Orchard StreeL

a. The floodin~ of the six residences shown is c.:lused prima.rily
by the inadequacy of the culvert under Nile Street.

b. The existine, channel or ditch located along t-he property line
doesn't have sufficient capacity t:o carry a lOO~'year st.orm runoff.

c. The 3 or 4 clut-buildings vlhich havQ been cO:lsl:ructe.d by thE'
residents also jmpede the flow pattern,

REACH 4: Orchard Street to Pike Street

a. The'tributary from South Table "Hountain as it drains dO\:-Jil Orchard
Street inundate~: approximately 13 house.s above the study chaIlnE~l. This
problem was stuc, ied and the alternate de.sign is presented in SE~ction V.

b. There are 11 houses affected by the. flood vaters along the drainage-,.:ay,

c. The vide flood limits are created due to the inadequacy of the clllvert
under Orchard St. and the flow restrict.ions along the channel.

REACH 5: Pike Street: to Quaker Street

3.. Due to the :_nadequacy of the culverts under Pike Street and the
construction of the two duplexes direct:ly we.st of Pike StrE~E~t, this
area. is inundatE~d.

b. The installation of fences and vegE,tation along thE; channel "ill
cause the flood vaters to spread and damage hOllses.

REACH 6: Quaker Street to the West

a_ The Quaker ~;treet culvert is i:..'1adequate, thus causing one. house
to be inundated. The area vest of Qllaker Street has not been ,;ubdivided
and before being allol;Jed to do so, the IOQ-year drainage-\.Jay must be
established and maintained.

B. SPECIAL PROBLEt'1

The "idening of Old Golden Road included adelitional pavE;ment and Eo-inch vertical
curb on either side. The drainage capacity of the road ""as designed on a 2-ye.ar
storm basis due to ec.onomic considerations during design. It \.lould have been
desirable to design ::or a lO-year storm, but the surrounding area dr2.inage-\.Jays
dOIl't have this aeldi:ional capacity.

Historically the sto:~m drainage sheet floHed across Old Golden Road in a
northerly direction bet"een the houses located I'lest of Quaker Street. This
historical sheet fIo'v pattern has been interrupted with the 6 inch c.urbs along
Old Golden Road. Th" area East of Qllaker Street has never received this adeli--
tional runoff, there.:ore, it Has necessary to install more l~ff ic:LE~nt drainage
systems. The runoff is now picked up from the street gutter and taken into
the pipes across Old Golden Road. These pipes Here icstalled to handle the
historic flm.J rate w.:lich would have sheet flo\ved across Old Golden Road any"Hay.

/6
