DISCUSSION OF THE REACHES

By dividing the drainage-way into reaches, each reach can be discussed
individually as follm,s:"

REACH 1

This length of channel has remained nearl.y in the historical condition.
During regular maintenance of the Camp -George He8t grounds, the area has
been graded, mowed, and cleaned to facilitate. the passage of storm runoff.

The only obstrucU_on to runoff is the cha.in link fence along the West
property line. It is considered in all likelihood that during a major
storm this fence would be "ashed Ollt.

REACH 2

The e..'Cisting 48" CSP culvert located unde.r the dri.veway a.t Noss Street
was installed by the County. During a recent storm the driveway was not
washed out even though the drive"ay \ms overtopped by runoff. This testi-
fies to the fact that if the culvert is correctly installed, repetiti.ve
and costly maintenancE~ can be mi.nimized. The channel above Noss Street has
been used as a dump ir. the past years and much of the debris along the
banks is floatable. If a large enough storm \{ere to oceur, much of this
d3bri.s would float dOlm to the culvert and plug it. Any designed system
can potentially becornE~ inoperative due to debris plugging, and damage.s can
and cIa occur.

REACH 3

The 36" CSP culvert located under Nile St:reet has b,een installed tn
best fit the existing conditions at the culver~ locatio~. Just above the
culvert on the North Eide of the channel sevl~ral residents have constructed
garages or sheds ClOSE to the channel. This condition .Limits thE! cha.nneling
Hhich could be accomplished above the c.ulvert to improve its operation.
The channel Hest of Nile Street ",as excavated by the County to alleviate
local flooding problelt.s. Some of the existing fences and out bllildi.ngs are
nQ1;" at a point of sliding into the channE~l caused by the continual erosion

6
