Flow-frequency anal~sis - Peak flow-frequency curves wer,e
prepared for each index point using the analysis of streamfl,,'.
datEL and the rainfall-runoff computations discussE,d in the following
par~,graphs .

An examination of the streamflow rE,cords in the Yampa Ri'ler basin
ShOll'S that most of the annual peak flo"s are produced by sno'oIl1lelt.
Therefore an analysis of these records yield flow--frequency I~urves
whic:h reflect primarily snowmelt conditions. It should be rl~l:ognized,
howE<ver, that rainfloods can occur in the Yampa River basin. The June
1921. and April 1974 floods were caused by a combination of sn".nnelt and
a geineral rain condition over the entir,e basin. In addition to the
genc.ral rain type storms Summer cloudbursts can oc:curin the basin.

The snowmelt portions of the flow frequency curves at the ungaged
loc8.t:ions were defined using an analysis of peak flow data at: 15
loc8.tions within the Yampa River basin. Those stations with r,'ore than 10
years of record were selected for analysis.. The e:tations used and the
computed statistical paralneters are shcn.l1 in the. following t~,ble.

S'

f'
