<br />PREFACE <br /> <br />This report includes informat1.-on on the flood 'haza:r>d a:r>eas adjacent to <br />the San Juan River and MaCabe C!'eek in the vicinity of Pagosa Springs, <br />/l'i'chuZeta County, Color-ado. <br /> <br />Be~~use of damage !'8sulting from past flooding, ,detailed flood haza:r>d <br />studies p.ave been recognized as an essential item in guiding the use of <br />flood p la'ins. The purpOSG of this report is to provide adequate mapping <br />ana data for impZeme~lting flood plain mcmagement programs. <br /> <br />Included in the report a:r>e inf01'TTlation on past floods, flood potential, <br />maps, profiles" cross sections, discharge data, and recommendations for- <br />reduaing potential flood damages on the San Juan River and MaCabe Creek <br />study a:r>ecc. <br /> <br />The Soil Conservation Service aonduated the technical studies and pre- <br />pa:r>ed the report. These services were ca:r>ried out in accordance with <br />the Plan of Study of Ma:r>cn 1976, and Supplement February 1977. <br /> <br />The assistanae and ooopez'ation provided by the Colorado Water Conser- <br />vation Board, the Upper San Juan Region Planning Commission, Archuleta <br />County, the town of Pagosa Springs, and the San Juan Soil Conservation <br />District, are appreciated and gratefully acknO/J)ledged. Financial assicl- <br />tance provided by these o:!'iJanizations and units of government included <br />f'~nds for photog'l'CCJ1D1/etric maps, cross-section data, SUT'Vey crew assis- <br />tance, installation of permanent reference monwnents, and collection oj' <br />hi,'!torical flood information. <br /> <br />The sUT'Vey, hyd:t'ologic, h!!drauZic, and other pertinent data and compu- <br />tc~tions are on file ,,nth the U.
