The county is bordered by Weld and Morgan Counties <br />on the north, Jefferson and Boulder Counties on the west, Denver and Arapaho Counties on the <br />south and Washington County on the east. Brighton is the County Seat of Adams County and is <br />located north of the Denver metropolitan area, The municipalities of Aurora, Arvada, <br />Broomfield, Commerce City, Federal Heights, Northglenn, Thornton and Westminster are <br />located completely or partially within Adams County and are generally included as part of the <br />Denver metropolitan area. The towns of Watkins, Bennett and Strasburg are also located within <br />the county, approximately 20 miles east of the Denver metropolitan area. These <br />municipalities include Bennett, Brighton, Commerce City, Federal Heights, Northglenn and <br />Thornton, Those municipalities which straddle more than one county continue to have individual <br />FISs, <br /> <br />Watershed Description <br />Adams County is situated in the South Platte River basin on the eastern slope of the Continental <br />Divide, The South Platte River flows generally from south to north through the county. Several <br />small and intermittent streams, which primarily flow during precipitation events, generally flow <br />from south to north within the county and are tributary to the South Platte north of the county, <br />Clear Creek is a perennial stream which originates at the Continental Divide and is tributary to <br />the South Platte in the southwestern portion of the county, Elevations of the county range from <br />5700 feet in the southern portion of the county to 4550 feet in the northeastern portion of the <br />county, Gaging stations are located within the county on the South Platte River and Clear Creek, <br />Gaging stations are also located on several canal diversions and tributary streams throughout the <br />basin, <br /> <br />2 <br />
