Visited with Mr. Leslie Havens (Intersection Clio & Virginia) concerning
an Island located in Monument Creek between Sections 142880 and 143880 and
143625. Mr. Havens owns property on the left bank in this area and wants
to build on the Isalnd. The visit was to make an on site inspection to
determine the size and stability of the Island and whether it is subject to
shallow depth flooding. Most of the Island would be subject to shallow
depth flooding from Monument Creek (perched flooding). See attached map
for location. There is evidence of erosion (50' x 200' x lOt) of the
Island as recent as the 1965 flood (colored blue on Island). In the event
of a large flood, only a small portion of the Island wouldn't be subject
to flooding (colored red on Island), however, erosion may scour out this
portion.

Recommendation: Show small Isalnd and warn about severe erosion in text
of report.

2. I also checked the computed flood boundary at Sec. 144800 to 144370.
There is no doubt that the 100 + 500 year flood boundaries would include
the area delineated on the attached map (shown in red). The area is low
but the computer wasn't able to "washout" Park Ave. which acts as a levee.
This area was flooded in 19651

3. Photos for inclusion in the report were also taken at various locations.

4. I discussed the 1Q65 flooding of the Salvation Army's Elephant Rock
1oV!,W 1;1-l~ C-AMP /"nR>>A,;;.~.e.
Church CamPA tie said water and mud was approximately one-foot deep in
the lower cabins (see photos).

GPO_8!S7_094
