The Gibson Dam storm of 1964 and the Cherry Creek storm of 1935 are
important general storm events and have been cited in several PMP studies for
basins north of Palmer Divide. Figure 2 shows the transposition limits for both
storms in the HMR 55A region. Mason Reservoir is located just outside the
extreme southern edge of the Gibson Dam and just west of the Cherry Creek
storm transposition envelopes. HMS thoroughly reviewed the meteorology and
orographic effects of these storms and compared them to the Mason Reservoir
site. The upslope components of the topography opposite the heaviest rainfall
centers produced were quite different than the slopes defining the Mason
Reservoir site. HMS agrees with the opinion given in HMR 55A that both
storms are just outside the transposition limits for the Mason Reservoir
PMP. However, HMS transposed these events to the Mason Reservoir Basin in
order to compare their maximized and transposed precipitation values with those
given in other PMP studies for high elevation sites in the State of Colorado,

Figure 2

~ransposition limits
for Gibson Dam, MT storm (75) of
June 6-8, 1964.

__.
