.

CASFM

Welcome to the 1997 Annual Conference of the Colorado Association ofStonnwater and
Floodplain Managers. We return this year to the beautiful setting of Vail, hoping for better
weather than last year's snow stonn! Again, we've drawn a record number of participants which
include both familiar and new mces. As always, the conference committee has worked hard to
present a conference which reflects the diversity and complexity of the issues we deal with daily in
floodplain and stormwater management.

Our theme this year is "Connecting With Our Community." Given the severe weather parts of
Colorado had this year some of us have "connected" with our communities in ways we had never
imagined. And our "community" of professionals from many different fields, as well as the citizens
we serve, came together to respond in admirable ways to the disasters suffered. This is a timely
theme, and I'm sure there will be much discussion of recent events.

.

Our originally scheduled keynote speaker, Mike Armstrong, was unable to attend due to schedule
conflicts. However, we were fortunate to persuade Mr. Glenn Levy of the Poudre Fire Authority to
speak to us about the flood which occurred on Spring Creek in Fort Collins on July 28th. Mr.
Levy, Emergency Management Director for Poudre Fire Authority will share with us what it's like
first hand to respond to a flood and its aftermath. Truly a case study of "connecting with the
community. "

Another exciting aspect of this year's conference are the HEC-RAS and Water Quality Workshops.
These workshops are offered in response to requests for more time to study and discuss a
particular topic in detail. We've had tremendous response to these offerings and we want to hear
from you whether you would like them to continue.

The technical program includes a variety of topics and many noteworthy speakers. You are
encouraged to ask questions and share your opinions and ideas. Utilize this opportunity and enjoy
your stay in Vail.

Your conference committee worked hard to present an excellent program this year.
