The Dolores Ri....er at

thc bclo\\l Rico gagc has daily strcamflow records for watcr ycars 1952-1996, and 1999 to 2003.

The Lost Canyon Creek gage has annual peak flow n..'Cords for 1921-1927, and daily

rccords for water years 1941-1948 at a location just upstream from the conlluencc of the Dolorcs

River. A gage 3 miles upstream from the conllucncc was established in 1984. when McPhee

Reservoir began storing walcr. For thc present study, the rccords at thc two Lost Canyon Creck

gages were considered equivalent. In general. high flO\vs on Lost Creek for rain and snowmelt

events are not coincident with the peak tlov..'s at the Dolores gage.

8.2 Rainllood and Snowmelt Records. Peak Ilows on the Upper Dolores River can be

caused by a general rainstonn. snowmclt, or a combination of rain on Ihe melting snowpack. The

mixed population complicates llow frequency analysis. The TUnolT records for the three gages 4

29
