Standard Project Flood. A term used by the Corps of Engineers to
designate a flood that may be expected from the most severe combination
of meteorological and hydrological conditions that are considered
reasonably characteristic of the geographical area in which the drainage
basin is located, excluding extremely rare combinations.

Thunderstorm. A sudden and extremely heavy downpour of rain that is
generally small in areal extent, of short duration,and accompanied
by lightning, thunder, and strong gusts of wind.

Unit Discharge. The peak volume rate of discharge for a given flood
divided by the tributary area which contributed to the flood flows.
Generally expressed in cubic feet per second (cfs) per square mile of
area.
