<br />PREFACE <br /> <br />Basic objectives of this report are to delineate the flood <br />plains and furnish information on the flood hazard areas t~t adjoin <br />Fountain Creek in Manitou Springs and ~est Colorado Springs. 1\s shown <br />On Plate 1, the study area exterAs along Fountain Creek from the <br />junction of Monument and Fountain Creek to the western city limits of <br />Manitou Springs. <br />Contents of this report are designed to provide local <br />government agencies, commercial interests, and concerned citizens <br />with data that will aid in planning the best use of flood prone lands <br />and contribute to the solution of flood problems. Aside from serving <br />as a tool for improving flood plain management, the report can be <br />helpful in designing bridges, roads, flood protection structures, and <br />determining where they should be located. ~he decision making pro- <br />Cess must consider the existing environmental attributes of the flood <br />plain areas and evaluate their prObable role in the oommunity's planned <br />future growth. <br />The report inclUdes info~,ation on historic floods, the <br />current flOOd situation, and on the nature and extent of prouable <br />future floods whiCh can be reasonably expected on the respective <br />study reaches..
