<br />. <br /> <br />S Y 1 1 A BUS <br />-------- <br /> <br />Presented herein is the project report plan for the Pinon .Canon <br />Clam., a small. detention dam to provide local flood protection for a <br />portion of the city of Trinidad, Colorado, from flash floods origi~ <br />nating on Pinon Canon Arroyo, a tributary of Purgatoire River. Author- <br />ization for eonstruction of small flood eontrol projects is eontained <br />in section 20S of the 1948 Flood Control Act (Public 1aw8S8, 80th Con- <br />gress, 2d Session), and as amended by section 212 of the 19S0 Flood <br />Control Act (Publie 1awS16, 81st Congress, 2d Session). ' <br /> <br />Authority for the preparation of this projeet report is contained <br />in the 2d indorsement from the Office, Chief of Engineers, to letter <br />SII1EOC, Subjeet: "Preliminary Reeonnaissance Report - Flood Control <br />Construction under Section 205 of the Flood Control Act of 1948, <br />Pinon Canon, Truidad, Colorado, II dated 16 ~jay 19S1. <br /> <br />The principa: features of the project plan include: <br /> <br />a. A compacted earthen embankment approximately 69.S feet in <br />length with a maximum height of about 13 feet above the arroyo bottom. <br /> <br />,. <br /> <br />b. An ungated outlet eonsisting of an inlet strueture with <br />trash rack, a 2-foot square reinforced concrete conduit 3~~ feet in <br />length, and a stilling basin. <br /> <br />e. A 7S~foot wide spillway consisting of an ogee-shaped <br />we:Lr, a retaining wa:~ adjacent to the embankment, and unlined approach <br />and outflO'r,..; chal1nels. <br /> <br />The eonstruction of the project ,JOuld require the acquisition of <br />about 32 aeres of land, induding improvements; relocation of about <br />0.7 mile of a single-lane gravel road; and construction of a 20-foot <br />long single-lane pile bent bridge. In accordance with the provisions <br />of local eooperation specified in the authorizing legislation, the <br />eity of Trinidad has given satisfactory assurances that it will pro- <br />vide all lands, easements, and rights-of-way for co~struction of the <br />project; hold and save the United .States free from damage due to the <br />construction works; and maintain and operate all the w:>rks after com- <br />pletion. In addition the eity of Trinidad has agreed to relocate the <br />gravel road and construet the road bridge. <br /> <br />It is estimated that the project could be constructed in approxi- <br />mateq 6 months at a total estimated eost of $18.'2,5"00, of whieh ~;lSO,OOO . <br />is Federal cost and ~f32,5JO is non-Federal cost. The annual maintenance <br />and operation eost to be borne by local interests after completion of the <br />project is estimated to be ~SOO. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />~a" <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />
