<br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />This report is prepared for and at the request of the Elbert County <br />Land Use Administration Agency and is intended1to analyze and provide <br />---- \" -- -- <br />sufficient technical data within the present frame work of hydrologicaJ <br />knowledge, to assist County and local municipal authorities as well as <br />concerned citizenry and commercial interestsi't()'planlorl and to avoid <br />_____ ___n ___, <br />E!:.c>91!'.!TIs cre21ted by possible flooding within the watershed of Running <br />, ~ <br />Creek up to and South of the Town of Elizabeth. <br /> <br />The analysis is based on present hydrological knowledge and theory <br />and on the criteria and soil classifications of the Soil Conservation Service, <br />on the meager records and history of hydrological behavior of Running <br />Creek and on various information provided by the SCS, Elbert County, <br />Citizens of the Town of Elizabeth, and many others whose help is j1.ereby <br />gratefully acknowledged. <br /> <br />The overall watershed was established from a composite USGS Map <br />including the following Quad Maps: Elizabeth, Russelville, Elbert; Cherry <br />Valley and Black Forest. Two such composite exhibits are provided for the <br />seminar scheduled for July 24, 1976 and more will be provided if needed. <br />Detailed aerial topographic maps were provided by Elbert County and <br />prepared by Scharf and Associates of Denver. Soil classification maps <br />were obtained from the Soil Conservation Service and a visual inspection of <br />the critical control points in the watershed were made by this writer and <br />other personnel. <br /> <br /> <br />This report concentrates on three critical sections of the main channel <br />insofar as they are most representative of the flood hazard potential for the <br />Town of Elizabeth. One such section is at the State Highway bridge, one <br />approximately 0.42 ,mile downstream and one approximately 0.81 mile <br />upstream. <br /> <br />-1- <br />
