BEAR CANYON CREEK

Without Major Flood Storaqe Reservoir

1. NCAR Land.

Construct relatively large sedimentation and flood storage ponds
in the eastern portion of the NCAR property. These ponds w~uld
be landscaped to provide a pleasing appearance and the design could
include a permanent pool in each. Opportunities exist for gravel
sales and solid waste disposal in connection with this flood and
sedimentation operation.

2. NCAR Land to Table Mesa Drive.

Channel rectification is required here to provide adequate capacity.
It Is contemplated that this channel would be a wide, slow-flow type
with appropriate drops and a trickle channel. A width of about 100'
would be required.

3. Table Mesa Drive.

a. Construct European-type channel to carry tOO-year runoff.
Reconstruct all culverts to proper opening sIze.

b. Modify existing channel as needed to stabilize, but do not
change basic character or capacity. Present culverts would
remain. Final capacity would be for about 10-year occurrence.
Flows exceeding that would overtop and cause significant street
damage and erosion of pavement and curbs and gutters.

4. Broadway.

This portion of the channel must be rehabilitated to eliminate
any reasonable chance of fai lure in the future. In essence,
the culvert would be paralleled with a separate conduit having
better sediment and water transport characteristics.'"

5. Broadway to Wellman Canal.

a. Reconstruct channel to carry the 100-year flood, channel
sections qenerallv being the wide, slow,.type but variations
included to suit right-of~ay limitations, Culverts would
be replaced or paralleled. Channel variations would include
some near-vertical walls. Some right-of-way would be acquired
and at least one residence would be taken.

b. Modify existing channel as needed to stabilize, leaving
character and capacIty as It Is. Enlarge or replace only
the completely Inadequate culverts.

* Conduit wIll be removed, and replaced with new box culvert.
