This area is in Township 1 South
and Township 1 North, Range 70 and 71 West of the 6th Principal Meridian,
The total tributary area of the basins is 12.1 square miles. The elevat-
ions range from 5,230 feet at Boulder Creek to 8,461 feet at the southern
divide of Bear Creek.

The individual drainage basins are as follows:

TABLE 11-1

DRA 1 NAGE BAS I NS

Gregory Creek
Bluebell Canyon Creek
King Gulch
Skunk Creek
Bear Canyon Creek
Viele Channel* (at Turnpike)
David's Draw (at Broadway)

1.9 sq. mi,
.7 sq. mi.
.4 sq, mi.
1,7 sq, mi.
5.3 sq. mi.
1.4 sq. mi.
.....:l. sq. mi.

12.1 sq, mi.

* Includes Anderson Channel

All of the basins originate in the mountainous greenbelt land west of the
City of Boulder except David's Draw to the far south, The acquisition of
greenbelt land in the upper portion of the basins was fortuitous from the
flood and debris problem point of view. Development In these basins would
have created sediment problems and extra.runoff of large proportions.

The South Boulder drainage area consists of approximately 46% mountains and
greenbelt lands on which there will be little or no future development, Be-
sides being rugged and not applicable to urbanization, the City of Boulder
has limited the land to the west that It will serve with water--the Blue
Line. Therefore, 5~!o of the total basin will have the future growth In
the basin.

Growth within the South Boulder drainage area has increased greatly In the
last 20 years. In 1950, only 2~!o of the area below the Blue Line was
developed. In 1965, this figure was about 6~~. It may be that by the year
2000, all of this area will be developed.
