A report describing the flood hazard along the Dolores River in the vicinity of
Dolores, Montezuma County, and along the lower reaches of Lost Canyon Creek and
the West Dolores River, is inclosed, This report was prepared in response to your
20 May 1976 letter and an original request from the Montelores Planning Group. Fifty
copies of the report will be sent directly to the Planning Group.

The report includes discussion of the nature of flooding in the area studied,
descriptive data on the laO-year flood in that area, maps (scale 1 inch = 400 feet)
showing areas subject to 100-year flooding, profiles showing the elevations the 100-
year flood is expected to reach, and a brief explanation of the methodology of
deriving the magnitude of the laO-year flood. Reproducible maps (scale 1 inch = 200
feet) showing the limits of the laO-year flood have been furnished directly to
Montezuma County.

Detailed information on the hydrologic study basic to the report is contained in an
Office Memorandum entitled "Dolores River above Dolores, Colorado-Flood
Hazard Information Hydrology," That memorandum has been furnished to the Water
Conservation Board and it may be reviewed in this office.

Section 206 of the 1960 Flood Control Act, as amended, provided the authority under
which the inclosed report was prepared. On the request of interested publiC
agencies, the Sacramento District will interpret data in the report and provide
technical assistance in their application.
