<br />Flood Insurance Study Report Data <br />Flood Insurance Study - Florence, Colorado <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />2.0 AREA OF STUDY <br /> <br />2.1 ScopeoU~ <br /> <br />This Flood Insurance Study covers Oak Creek within the City of Florence, Colorado. A lOO-year <br />floodplain and flood way analysis was perfoffiled. <br /> <br />2.2 Community Description <br /> <br />Location in State: <br /> <br />The City of Florence is located in south central Colorado approximately 30 miks west of the City <br />of Pueblo. <br /> <br />2.3 Principle Flood Problems <br /> <br />Oak Creek has been chaanelized aad straightened through the City of Florence:. Through much of <br />the study reach, the Oak Creek channel is no longer located in the: bottom of th(~ historic Oak Creek <br />Valley. In some locations, the banks of the existing channel have been filled. These factors, <br />combined with relatively small bridge openings aad a railroad embankment cause the floodplain to <br />be broad with hyclraulically divided flows in both the rlght and left overbaaks. <br /> <br />2.4 Flood Protection Measures <br /> <br />None. <br /> <br />3.0 ENGINEERING METHODS <br /> <br />3. 1 Hydrologic Analyses <br /> <br />A hydrologic aa~Jysis of the Oak Creek basin was undertaken by the Albuquerque District of the <br />USACE specifically for this re-aaalysis of the Oak Creek floodplain. The complete USACE report <br />along with aa acceptance letter of the hydrology from the State of Colorado Water Conservation <br />Board Flood Control and Floodplain Maaagement Section is included in the correspondence in the <br />Appendix.
