SHEET COMMENTARY
SHEET 15 OF 23
STATION 765+00 TO STATION 960+00
REACH EIGHT

In addition to trail construction, a variety of improvements are proposed
for Rendezvous Park. The plan proposes constructing a parking lot with
access from Highway 224 and increasing Rendezvous Park's acreage.
Improvements to Engineer's Lake include improving bank safety and fishing.
Landscaping for visual purposes and additional habitat as well as to
improve park character is also recommended. Where possible, riparian
vegetation should be used to enhance the natural character of the park.
The plan also proposes addition of camping and picnic facilities in the
northern portion of Rendezvous Park.

II
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

IV-39

The Recreation Plan proposed for this segment of the South Platte River is
based on the engineering drawings in Vol. I of the Phase B Report. As the
engineering drawings are revised and refined, the plan proposed here will
need to be reevaluated and modified if necessary to accommodate flood
control measures.

The land use in this segment is industrial with large parcels of
undeveloped land. Several recreation-related improvements have been
constructed as part of the Adams County Greenway. Specifically, a trail
begi ns below 1-76 in Rendezvous Park, where it crosses fi rst the ri ver
itself then Clear Creek via pedestrian bridges. After crossing Clear
Creek, the existing trail continues north along the west bank to Niver
Creek Canal where it ends. In addition to the hike and bike trail, from
Clear Creek nortn the trail has an adjacent horse path.

The plan proposes development of a linear park, improvement and expansion
of Rendezvous Park, and development of auto access points and other special
facilities. The overall emphasis of the plan in this segment and Reach
Eight in general is to preserve and enhance the riparian environment to the
extent possible.

The proposed trail and adjacent horse path begin on the east bank,
continuing north to join the existing trail at the existing picnic area on
Cl ear Creek's west bank. Although the trail crosses underneath I -270 and
1-76 no ramps to street grade are provided due to the high speed traffic.
The plan also proposes development of connecting trails along Clear Creek
to the City of Golden and the entire northwest metropolitan area and along
Ni ver Creek Canal to the City of Thornton. On the east bank, the plan
proposes development of a loop trail around Engineer's Lake with a
connection to Barr Lake via the O'Brian Canal.
