The Recreation Plan proposed for this segment of the South Platte River is
based on the engineering drawings in Vol. I of the Phase B Report. As the
engi neeri ng drawi ngs are revi sed and refi ned, the pl an proposed here wi 11
need to be reevaluated and modified if necessary to accommodate flood
control measures.

Boating improvements are expected to result from construction of the low
flow channel proposed in Volume I of the Phase B Report.

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

IV-35

SHEET COMMENTARY
SHEET 13 OF 23
STATION 1064+00 TO STATION 1175+00
REACHES SIX AND SEVEN

The plan proposes significant expansion of Washington Street Pocket Park.
The plan ca 11 s for development of a new Pocket Park north of Frankl in
Street with boat landings and a parking lot for approximately 14 cars.

The land uses along this segment include residential and industrial
development. Corridor boundaries are typically established by existing
roads. A linear park already exists, complimented by Globeville Landing
and Washington Street Pocket Park. The existing linear park consists of an
east-bank trail which continues north to Globeville Landing where it
crosses a pedestri an bri dge to the west bank and continues north, endi ng
abruptly approximately 1000 feet south of Franklin Street.

The plan suggests construct i on of an oppos i te-bank trail system through
this segment and improvements to existing parks. From the south end of the
segment, the proposed trail continues north along the west bank, crossing
underneath East 31st Avenue and East 38th Street with ramps to street grade
at each crossing. The trail joins the existing trail north of 38th Street.
The plan also recommends continuing the existing east-bank trail north from
Globeville Landing Park, crossing underneath 1-70 and Franklin Street with
a ramp to street grade at Frankl in. The plan proposes two options for
creating a new pedestrian bridge to connect the east and west-bank trails.
The fi rst option is to use the abandoned cattle bri dge and the second
option is to construct a new bridge south of Franklin.

The recommended improvement to Globeville Landing is to add stairs to the
existing boardwalk to provide boater access to the river.
