While the foremost and primary use of the South Platte River <br />is for drainage and flood control, the development of this use must be coor- <br />dinated with water supply, sewerage, land use, building development, recrea- <br />tion, transportation, wildlife, and open space. <br /> <br />The completed reports for this assignment include the following: <br /> <br />1. Phase A: Development of Alternative Plans <br />2. Phase B: Preliminary Engineering Design, Volumes I and II <br />3. Flood Hazard Area Delineation . <br />4. Gravel Mining Criteria Report <br /> <br />The Phase B Report includes technical and pl anning information of the South <br />Platte River, including: <br /> <br />Re, South Platte River Corridor Recreation Plan <br /> <br />Dear Mr. Tucker: <br /> <br />Vol~me I of the South Platte River Corridor Phase B Report presented the pre- <br />1 1m1 nary des1gn and master pl an for the 40-mi le reach of the South Pl atte <br />River from Chatfield Reservoir to Brighton. Volume II of this report, I'klich <br />assumes that all improvements recommended in Volume I are in pl ace presents <br />the recreation plan for this same 40-mile reach of the South Platte'River. <br /> <br />The recreation plan of our Phase B work is published in a separate volume to <br />provide wider distribution, coupled with economy of publication. <br /> <br />As Contractors with the District for the South Platte River Corridor assign- <br />ment, we wish to take this opportunity to mention the outstanding work of Mr. <br />Robert Smith of Denton Harper Marshall, Landscape Architects, and Mr. Rick <br />Lamoreaux of Urban Environments, Limited. <br /> <br />. It <br />will result in a unified approach to control of the flooding problem within <br />the framework of a valuable regional linear amenity. The South Platte River <br />Corridor is an asset for all local governments and their citizens and can be <br />made to serve them better. <br /> <br />Mr. Smith handled his assignment on this project in a thorough and profes- <br />sional manner. He contributed effort over and above what is expected to en- <br />sure a quality work product. <br /> <br />This Volume II of the Phase B Report on the South Platte River Corridor rep- <br />resents a road map for recreational and ecological development and restora- <br />tion of the 40-mile-long corridor. Following this master plan will provide a <br />connected and systematic development of the corridor. <br /> <br />Mr. Lamoreaux provided valuable insight and innovative handling of the water- <br />based wildlife and recreational aspects of the assignment. His descriptions <br />and recommended solutions are clear and practical. Mr. Lamoreaux worked num- <br />erous hours over and above our expectations to ensure a result of which the <br />sponsors can be proud.
