S. Soil Conservation <br />Service indicate that the southwestern part of the state has a much <br />higher than average snowpack. The highest reading 1S 205% of <br />normal in the Dolores River drainage. Given this threat, the <br />Colorado Water Conservation Board has prepared a synopsis of flood <br />insurance information for local government officials 1n <br />southwestern Colorado. The following counties participate in the <br />National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), as do most of their <br />incorporated municipalities. If you have a question as to whether <br />or not your community is a NFIP participant, please call your <br />county, city or town offices or Mark Matulik or Larry Lang at the <br />ewcs, (303) 866-3441 Ext. 301. <br /> <br />Southwestern Colorado Counties Which Participate In The NFIP <br /> <br />Alamosa <br />Costilla <br />Gunnison <br />Mesa <br />Montrose <br />Summit <br /> <br />Archuleta <br />Delta <br />Hinsdale <br />Mineral <br />Ouray <br /> <br />Chaffee <br />Dolores <br />San Juan <br />!1ontezuma <br />Pitkin <br /> <br />Conejos <br />Eagle <br />La Plata <br />San Miguel <br />Rio Grande <br /> <br />Southwestern Colorado Counties Which Don't Participate In The <br />NFIP (And Therefore Flood Insurance Isn't Available) But <br />Nonetheless Have A Potential Flood Threat <br /> <br />Lake <br /> <br />Saguache <br /> <br />FLOOD INSURANCE FACTS <br /> <br />Flood insurance is available in any area of a community <br />which participates in the NFIP. <br /> <br />Federally-backed flood insurance is not available in <br />communities which don't participate in the NFIP. <br /> <br />Rate are either subsidized (Pre-FIRM) or actuarial <br />(Post-FIRM) based on when a structure was built. <br /> <br />Flood insurance can be written by any licensed insurance <br />agent. <br /> <br />b:flinsfct.doc <br />
