Sandbags used in sandbag dosures are generally of burlap. about 19 X 36 inches empty, although <br />any type and size may be used U necessary. (Accmmon size is 15X24Inches.) Sandbags arefiUedwtth eanh about <br />two.thirds full, shaken down loosely but not tamped. lbe bags need not be tied II they are carefully placed: .,~ open <br />unfmed end is folded back underthe bag so the weight of the bag keeps ttdosed. The bags are laid In layer-. The bags <br />of the bottom layer laid lengthwise of the opening, the bags of the seccnd layer laid crosswlse of the openir.;.the third <br />layer lengthwise and so on, each succeeding layer being laid In an altemate direction to the layer below.
