Floods larger th~n the Stand- <br />ard Project Flood are possible; however. the combination of factors <br />that would be necessary to produce such floods would se1d~ occur. <br />Consideration of floods of this magnitude may become important if <br />possible damages indicate the need of extremely high assurance that <br />flood risk oe eliminated. <br /> <br /> <br />Areas flooded and depths of floodinQ. The flood plain <br />areas along the North Fork Republican River in the vicinity of ~ray <br />that would be inundated by an Intermediate Regional Flood or Stand. <br />drd Project Flood are shown on plates 3 through 5. An index map <br />showing the general relationship of these areas is found on plate 2. <br />Depths of flow can be estimated from the flOOd profiles shown on <br />plate 6 and cross sections on plates 7 a.nd 8. <br /> <br />Fig. 5. <br /> <br />City power facilities located just upstream of <br />the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad bridge. <br /> <br />Limits of the flooded areas shown on the plates were <br />determined from topographic maps with a ten-foot contour interval <br />and a horizontal scale of 1 inch to 1,000 feet and were supplemented <br />by field investigations. The actual limits may vary from those <br />shown due to IIkIp limitations <lnO the contour interval used. The velocity in develope<i areas <br />increases as floodwaters are forced to flow around buildings and <br />other obstacles not designed for water passage.
