I1I.6

SECTION IV
OPPOR1UNITIES AND CONSTRAINlS

The channel between McIntyre Street and Eldridge Street is a continuation of
the riprap Channel section constructed by Coors Industries and described
under Reach 2. Between Eldridge Street ana 1-70 the channel maintains are-
1 at i ~e 1 y s tra ight alignment as it passes by the aspha lt pa~ i ng plant and the
Jefferson County gra~el operat ions. Just upstream of l~ 70 the fl oodp 1 ~i n
becomes rel at j~ely wide and f1 at and the Channel is braided.

I<IATERRESOVRCES
Clear Creek water is used for COnJJ1unity water supply, agricultural
irrigation and industrial water supply. Clear Creek has a sustained year.
round flow which makes it a special asset in the front range. Table H.l
presents typical Clear Creek flows. Average streilm flow (B53-1976) is
approximately 195 cfs, with 10cfs and 2380cfsminimum ilnd maximum values,
respectfully.

There are few problems in Study Reach 3, since the channel has the capacity
to carry the lOO-year discllarge with the exception Of the area upstre<ll1lof
the railroad bridge east of Mcintyre Street. In this area the backwater
from the rai I road bri dge can Cduse o~erfl OI'lS to occur o~er the north bank
and cause flooding at the Commodities Transload building.

TABLE H-l

CLEAR CREEK FLOWS (CFS)*
STATION '0671~500
NEAR GOLDEN, COLORADO

JoIonth in Which
;~ater Year Minimum Maximum Average Lowest Flow ~as Recorded
B60 10 365 129 March
1967 16 742 151 December
1968 37 1070 170 March
1969 38 1610 ,;>79 March
1970 45 b60 292 January
1971 30 1530 2ti6 January
1972 35 1300 169 February
1973 35 1990 267 December
1974 30 1200 215 January
1976 30 1070 ""5 Mdrch
1976 19 741 133 March
*Records collectedilnd co;:wuted by Colorado Division of Io'ater Resources and
Reviewed by the United States Geologii: Sur~ey .
