.

Welcome!
to the Cherry Creek Stewardship Partners
2002 Annual Conference

.

The Cherry Creek Stewardship Partners is an informal association of a broad range of
stakeholders interested in promoting effective stewardship of the Cherry Creek
watershed, bringing together stakeholders from the land use jurisdictions, the state and
federal resource management agencies, conservation, recreation and historic preservation
groups, and the business community. The Partners emerged from the first Cherry Creek
watershed forum, held in 1999, The Partners have organized and presented three well-
attended public forums addressing ongoing activities such as open space and stream
quality in the Cherry Creek watershed and concerns for the future. The need for cross-
jurisdictional coordination and communication on watershed issues in the Cherry Creek
basin emerged as the number one priority at the October 2000 watershed conference-
Shaping A Legacy for the Cherry Creek Watershed, The Partners believe they have met
this need with their extensive representation by the local communities, as well as being
the first active group that represents both the upper and lower portions of the watershed,
The Partners have defined their role in providing regular information-sharing forums,
while at the same time providing an opportunity for participants to consider ways to
coordinate and, perhaps, integrate projects and activities that affect water resources and
recreational components of the watershed. Primarily, ad hoc work groups, composed of
staff from the land use jurisdictions, state and federal management agencies, and
consulting firms, join interested, committed citizens in the form of subcommittees to
carry out stewardship activities,

.

The Conference Committee is one such subcommittee, established to develop an agenda,
contact speakers, scout a conference location, and coordinate all the little details that will
provide attendees with a meaningful conference experience. The 2002 Conference
Committee included the following volunteers from the Partners:

Paul Hindman, Conference Chairman: speakers
Lanae Raymond: sponsors, proceedings packet; poster session, conference signage
Mike Schlegel: Awards and Partners Calendar
Joyce Schmidt: Awards and Partners Calendar
Joan Howerter, ICEC, Inc: Conference logistics, liaison with conference center, budget
Stephanie Piko: conference development
Raylene Owen: conference development
Marc Alston: initial conference development
Terry Baus: initial conference development
Casey DavenhiIl: initial conference development

.
